What is Dalgona Coffee?
A creamy four-ingredient coffee that has taken over social media, simply made by whipping instant coffee with sugar and water, resulting in a butterscotch-hued foam that’s spooned over milk. People are going crazy for the new Dalgona Coffee as it's super easy to make, and fun to play around with and add your own toppings. This new beverage option will excite cafe menus, as it's spiked in popularity and brings new news to the iced beverages category.
Where did it come from?
According to Google Trends, the craze gained serious traction at the end of February when a Korean YouTuber posted a now viral, ASMR-style video on how to simply make the Dalgona Coffee. The clip alone has racked up more than 3.5 million views and has now created a mass trend worldwide.
However, this isn’t simply a momentary trend as people have been making whipped coffee at home for years. In India and Pakistan, whipped coffee has long been a popular home brew, known as Phenti Hui. In Greece, the Frappé is dalgona’s older, frothier sibling. And, more generally, there are versions that are shaken with egg whites and served with condensed milk.

How to make Dalgona Coffee
Vaughn Vreeland from the NY Times has simplified this in a 5 step guide below.
To make one drink, combine 2 tablespoons NESCAFÉ Classic or NESCAFÉ Gold coffee, 1/2 tablespoon sugar and 2 tablespoons hot water in a medium bowl. (You can use up to 2 tablespoons sugar for a sweeter drink.)
Whip, by hand or with a mixer.
Continue mixing until the mixture turns from foamy to frothy to creamy.
Spoon the fluffy mixture over milk in a glass filled with ice. (You could also spoon it over warm milk for a hot drink.)
Combine and serve.
